I don't have absolutely up-to-date information on this, because it's not B's field and we've pretty much checked out of the school system otherwise. But when ghoti was TAing in a primary school, she tried to run a "Computer Club for Girls" thing, which seemed like an excellent project to support and had centrally-organised materials and everything; except that it was all fluffy pink nonsense and had hardly any educational substance to it, and a number of the girls were obviously just bored by it (this is second-hand, hopefully ghoti will follow up if I've remembered details a bit wrongly). And most of the IT stuff that B has reported amounts to "how to use Excel" or "how to use PowerPoint". Some bits of the educational establishment have been making the right noises recently, but they have an awfully long way to go.
