I'd been planning to go to the CTS squash last night anyway, but [livejournal.com profile] beckyc let me know that there was a Watching of Silly Things happening beforehand so I went over early. Too early, in fact, as it was meant to be in Thea's room and she wasn't around yet, but fortunately [livejournal.com profile] naath was in and could keep me company for a while. Once we sorted all that out we sat and watched the Return of the King trailer and preview, Jack Black and Sarah Michelle Gellar's Council of Elrond sketch, the short film that Sean Astin decided to direct when the cast got bored one weekend, and the very self-referential film about the making of that film (right down to the Deputy Second Assistant to the Chief Assistant Bus Driver, or something along those lines).

The squash was actually quite good fun. I've been meaning to join CTS for years but have never got round to it until now, so I had the weird experience of being the one who says "er ... actually I graduated three years ago" when people ask what college I'm at and expect me to be a fresher. Oops. :) Still, at least [livejournal.com profile] beckyc and Mark were around so that I wasn't the oldest person in the room. There were lots of interesting people - in fact lots of people full stop - and I think this might be a fun society to stick around.

Afterwards, [livejournal.com profile] naath, [livejournal.com profile] ptc24, and I went to the Calling. I'd worn my Keep Mordor Tidy t-shirt, figuring that it would work equally well for CTS and the Calling, which it did, but I did feel a bit underdressed compared to [livejournal.com profile] naath in her gorgeous stroky dress and black cape. ;) It's been a few months since I went Calling, and to be honest I wasn't all that impressed by the music. About the best thing I heard was the Orbital version (I think) of the Doctor Who theme tune, which is wonderful but, let's face it, not particularly goth. We left quite early after they started playing Love Shack. Maybe we just picked a bad night. But hey, clubbing with friends and generally lovely people is never all that bad.

[livejournal.com profile] antinomy had been intending a quiet evening in the Fort St. George tonight rather than the usual Carlton pub quiz, but unfortunately it's their pub quiz night too and it's much louder than the Carlton's. D'oh! Not a bad evening though, and particularly good to chat to [livejournal.com profile] acronym who I really should catch up with more often.

Tomorrow is a CUSFS video evening, Friday's still unbooked I think, and then I dive into full hectic territory with the engagement party at our house and Rivendell's housewarming on Saturday, a CUSFS discussion on Sunday, [livejournal.com profile] acronym's University Challenge showing on Monday, CTS eagle debate on Tuesday, and probably more stuff I've forgotten after that. Yow. Maybe I'd better get my sleep now. *zzzzz*
