I normally don't have very much time for "Big Issue" vendors, but I was amused by the chap in town today who was inviting us to consider a "Moderately-Sized Issue".

I was amused by one who offered me "two free staples" with every magazine.

Ah, he's the one on the corner of Trinity Street and Rose Crescent, isn't he? He sometimes does the "Alms for an Ex-Leper" thing too.

Was it the pony-tailed, goateed bloke outside Sainsburys? I like him.

I've stopped seeing genuine big issue vendors - it's always dodgier people who're trying to extract money from people on the promise of a Big Issue, sometimes backed up with a tatty and outdated copy.

And they aren't funny, either.

I've heard the Rose Crescent guy's banter quite a few times, and I've nearly bought one from him (but I usually lack either the money or the time). I think it goes 'Would anyone here like to join my long queue...you may have to wait...don't rush me all at once...buy this week's generously-proportioned issue...not much bigger than your average issue...'

He makes me smile.
