Well, I made it back in the end; it was a fun week. I didn't finish my pet project in the end, but I got it well over the hurdle that had been getting in my way and should be able to clean up the last few bits and pieces soon. I decided I wanted to spend the last few days having fun instead, so I went to a water park (let's ignore the fact that I can't swim at all, shall we?) on Thursday, and the conference proper was probably more memorable for evenings sitting around drinking whisky with friends than the actual talks. :) The ftpmaster talk ("Elmo's Angels") and the sort of sociological one about improving relationships among people within the project were interesting, though, plus the one I missed due to having to catch my plane that I'll have to find the slides for later, and as ever Bdale was an excellent after-dinner speaker.

I missed people at home, so I'm glad to be back. Probably should've taken a day off work on Monday as well, though, as I was tired from travelling and my brain wasn't working too well, even though my cold unhelpfully mostly cleared up just in time to go back to work.

I don't think I'm going to be quite so far north for a long time, unless anyone fancies going on holiday with me to Finland or something ... any takers? :)

Oh yeah, and I've started trying to catch up on my backlog of "24". Nobody tell me what happened in Sunday's episode, on pain of, um, pain.

And I finished the new Harry Potter book while I was away, so at some point I need to go back through all those entries people made where I was too busy running away from the spoilers. I didn't react quite as strongly as [livejournal.com profile] beckyc did to the death; maybe I should read it again and see if it's different second time round.

Three posts in one night. I rock. Actually I just have a head like a sieve, but anyway.
