Saturday started off fairly quietly; I slept late as usual, and then did some increasingly urgent Debian work and a bit of laundry and half-hearted room-tidying, nothing terribly earthshaking. Later in the afternoon Peter and I wandered over to the Carlton and watched mad people bungee-jumping towards a concrete car park. Rather them than me, but it was entertaining to watch the various Superman impressions. After that, [livejournal.com profile] lark_ascending and [livejournal.com profile] crazyscot invited me over to help eat their large quantity of lamb, which followed by ice-cream and chopped stem ginger made for a very nice dinner indeed. (Thanks!) I'm sure I'd made a mental note to go into town for something or other on Saturday afternoon, but let's hope it wasn't very important.

Today I overdosed on children (hic). My nephew Finn turned three on Wednesday, so I spent most of the afternoon at a family party over at my sister's, which included three of his even younger cousins on her husband's side. Finn seemed to enjoy the radio-controlled car I got him, as will his dad I suspect. :)

Bedtime now - mmm, sleep. Tomorrow I need to stop off on the way to work and pay our council tax, otherwise Bad Things will happen. Sigh. It's so nice of them to send a seven-day demand after I'd made the effort to go to the council offices to ask for a bill to be sent, because I'd lost the old one with the amount and the address we're supposed to send cheques to. I think I'll have to succumb and set up a direct debit there.

We were talking about food Saturday. Lorna was saying it's so hard to find lamb over here, and when it is, it's hideously expensive. Nobody eats it in this quarter of the world. At least, not very often. But apparently you guys over there eat it like we go through beef over here. But then somebody else said lamb over there was getting more and more pricey all the time, as opposed to Lorna's 'but it's cheaper there' version.. which is it?

Lamb is probably the most expensive of the "common" meats here; certainly more expensive per pound than beef, which is more expensive than pork, which is about the same as chicken.

I think.

Lamb leg steaks are quite reasonably priced and conveniently bone-free. They have the downside that they really need slowly cooking for 2 hours or more to be tender.
