I went along tonight to audition for the charity reading of the Lord of the Rings radio play that the Cambridge Tolkien Society is planning to do in a few months' time. It was quite fun; I narrated briefly, then read Aragorn against a really quite convincing Eowyn (whose name I don't know). With a few exceptions like Gollum they were more interested in hearing voices than particular characters, but I think I did OK. Of the others who were there, I found noteworthy
emperor's and Richard's respective Gollums, somebody-whose-name-I-can't-remember's Galadriel, Matthew Reid's Denethor, and Sharmaine's Grima Wormtongue.

Conference invitation
Jan. 20th, 2004 02:40 pmI've got an invitation to the Open Source World Conference in Málaga, Spain for mid-February, to take part in a workgroup on Debian-based distributions and some related meetings, and the Junta de Andalucía is paying for my travel and accommodation. Cool! I was almost going to turn down the invitation on the grounds of lack of time until I noticed that it was paid-for (not something I expected at all - it's the first time that's happened to me), at which point I realized I really couldn't say no. Spain's weather stands a good chance of being better than here, and my only visit to Spain until now was to Mallorca.
( Thoughts for the conference (geeky, Debian) )
